Carlijn van Rest is a litigator at heart. She is particularly interested in complex cases, representing clients in court and in arbitration. She brings not only with her extensive experience in financial services litigation, but also deals regularly with collective actions and corporate disputes.

From advice on international economic sanctions regulations to shareholder disputes - Carlijn is on top of things. She also understands that the world is bigger than the Netherlands, therefore she regularly advises on international jurisdiction and choice-of-law issues in cross-border disputes or contracts.

Representative experience

Acting for Italian clients before Enterprise court on compensation by Dutch Minister of Finance in relation to the nationalization of SNS Bank and SNS Reaal.

Acting for an English bank in a collective action before the court of Amsterdam.

Represented a group of investors active in the Italian Telecom industry, in arbitration proceedings initiated towards two of the co-investor based on non-performance of the shareholders agreement.

Acting for a bank in a prospectus liability case.

Successfully represented a Dutch bank in debt recovery litigation and enforcement of security.

Acting for investment fund on its transfer to another manager, and on obtaining licence at the Ministry of Finance to handle applicable EU sanctions restrictions.

Successfully acted on behalf of a Dutch company in proceedings on the recognition and enforcement of a 1 billion dollar Swiss arbitral award.
