Equalisation of GMPs: where do we go from here?

In a landmark decision which will impact most defined benefit (DB) pension schemes, the High Court has held that pension schemes must equalise for the effect of guaranteed minimum pensions (GMPs) coming into payment at different ages for men and women.

The administrative costs of equalising GMPs are likely to be extremely high – while delivering only small increases in benefit to members.

To help employers and trustees get to grips with the implications of the decision, Hogan Lovells pension team is holding a seminar which will explore:

  • Practical implications of the judgment
  • Different methods of equalising GMPs
  • What to do where members have transferred out or died
  • Impact of the case on earlier buy-ins and buy-outs
  • The seminar will be informal, with breakfast and refreshments available throughout

Target audience:

All who are impacted by the requirement to equalise the effect of GMPs are very welcome.
