The Internet of Things Webinar Series: The draft ePrivacy Regulation will impact Internet of Things

The draft European ePrivacy Regulation applies to electronic communications data exchanged by persons or machines. It will impose strict consent requirements to any value-added processing of communications data. Non-personal data is also included. Industrial internet, smart cities, smart buildings and connected vehicles will all be affected.

But to whom does the ePrivacy Regulation apply exactly, and why does the regulation cover non-personal data? Whose consent is required in multi-user or industrial scenarios? And why is the GDPR considered insufficient to treat privacy risks?

These are some of the questions European policymakers are struggling with now in light of the draft legislation, and that we will examine during this webinar. We will also inform participants on the current state of negotiations among European lawmakers.
