Charles Brasted featured in The Lawyer's Hot 100 list

Hogan Lovells partner Charles Brasted, who heads up the firm's public law and policy practice, has been included in The Lawyer's Hot 100 list, published today. The prestigious list from leading UK legal magazine The Lawyer celebrates the most daring, innovative and creative lawyers in the UK from private practice, in-house and the Bar.

Over the last three years, Charles Brasted has emerged as one of the UK’s most sought-after experts on the potential impact of Brexit on UK law and policy.

He is also high-profile litigator and advisor acting for household names at the cutting-edge of innovation and regulation on their most complex regulatory and policy challenges, and a pioneer of integrated public law and government relations advice.

In the last year, Charles has:

  • led the team that secured Uber's future in London after it was refused a licence by TfL, and in so doing he helped the company to examine and reform its governance, structures and culture;
  • been advising a number of online platforms on their strategy in relation to online regulation, fake news and other highly topical policy debates;
  • helped a number of life sciences innovators to secure access to new treatments for UK patients; and
  • achieved an important victory for access to justice, successfully resisting Ministry of Justice court closures.

On Brexit, Charles is regularly quoted in national media, where his knowledge – and the ease with which he delivers it – has helped journalists and the general public to better understand the how the Brexit process may unfold and what that means for businesses, individuals and the UK's constitutional democracy.

The Lawyer commented: "Last year, Charles Brasted was sorting out two of the biggest concerns for Londoners; Brexit and the potential loss of Uber. With Transport for London stripping the taxi app of its City licence in 2017, the Hogan Lovells litigator was called in to save the day in one of the most high-profile battles of the past 12 months. Over the summer, the firm successfully won a 15-month probationary licence for Uber, a flagship client of Brasted’s for over six years. Promoted to partner just five years ago, Brasted has carved a reputation for himself as the firm’s public law guru and is a key member of its Brexit taskforce as a result."

Charles Brasted commented: "Every day, I work with in-house teams who are innovative, creative and highly commercial – including Fiona Dormandy of Airbnb, who is rightly recognised in the Hot 100 today.  It is great fun to work with them and a privilege to be recognised alongside them in this list of the best lawyers in the UK."
