EU General Data Protection Regulation and private equity

To say that the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR or the Regulation) will change the existing data protection framework in Europe is an understatement. In less than a year, an ambitious, complex and strict law will transform the way in which personal information is collected, shared and used globally.

The time to prepare is now. From 25 May 2018 the Regulation will apply in all Member States including the UK, and despite UK's pending departure from the EU. But the Regulation is not just for European private equity. With extra-territorial effect the GDPR will apply whenever the data of European individuals is processed.
