Hogan Lovells recognized at the IJGlobal 2020 Awards in eight categories for the second consecutive year

London, 12 July 2021 - Hogan Lovells is delighted to announce that matters on which it has advised have been recognized in 8 award winning categories at the IJ Global Awards for Europe, Middle East, Africa, Asia Pacific and the Americas region. IJGlobal recognize and reward excellent and exceptional performance across all regions, globally.

The winning deals include:

  • European waste-to-energy – Protos: Hogan Lovells advised the Sustainable Engineering Solutions Business Unit of MYTILINEOS S.A., on the construction of the £355 million Protos Energy from Waste (EfW) facility, which will be one of the largest new build EfW projects in the United Kingdom, in a joint venture with Standardkessel Baumgarte GmbH. Upon completion, the facility will produce enough low carbon electricity to power around 90,000 homes.
  • Editor’s Choice Award Latin America and Latin America Power - EnfraGen: Hogan Lovells advised subsidiaries of EnfraGen, LLC in a US$1.76 billion renewables financing, one of the largest power projects in Latin America in 2020. EnfraGen raised US$710 million in a project bond issuance and a further US$1 billion through a pari passu loan. This deal has also been recognized by Latin Lawyer as “Deal of the year” in the Project Finance (Energy) category. For more information, click here.
  • Asia Pacific DFI - Mazar-e-Sharif Gas-Fired Power Plant IPP Phase 1: Hogan Lovells advised IFC, ADB, and DEG as senior lenders on the debt financing for the development and construction of the US$62.3 million 58.6MW Mazar Independent Power Plant, the first power plant fully financed, designed, built, and operated by the private sector in Afghanistan. Once constructed, the power plant will generate 400GWh of electricity annually for the residents of Mazar-e-Sharif, Kabul and Jalalabad, bringing the country’s electricity generation up by 30%.
  • Middle East and North African water desalination - Jubail 3A: Hogan Lovells advised Al Rajhi Banking and Investment Corporation, Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank, Mizuho Bank, Ltd. and Riyad Bank as senior lenders to the ACWA Power led consortium (including Gulf Investment Corporation and Al Bawani Water and Power Company) on all aspects relating to the approximately US$650m financing of the Jubail 3A greenfield sea water reverse osmosis desalination project procured by Saudi Water Partnership Company (SWPC).   • Asia Pacific coal-fired power - Java 9 and Java 10 Coal-Fired Power Plants: Hogan Lovells advised PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PT PLN) on the development, construction and financing of the US$2.8 billion 2,000 MW Java 9 and 10 power projects in Indonesia, including advising on overall project issues and preparing the project documentation (including the PPA and Shareholders Agreement). This is a pathfinder project and one of the first major IPPs to be developed following major regulatory changes affecting the Indonesian IPP regime.
  • Asia Pacific data centre - Acquisition of 88% in AirTrunk: Hogan Lovells advised Goldman Sachs and TSSP on the sale of data centre business, AirTrunk, to the funds management arm of Macquarie, MIRA, for almost AUD$3 billion. The sellers were Goldman Sachs (their Special Situations group), TSSP (TPG's special situations group) and Robin Khuda, founder and CEO of AirTrunk.
  • MENA Water Wastewater - Umm al Hayman: Hogan Lovells advised on Umm Al-Hayman, a large-scale sewage treatment plant project in Kuwait and one of the largest and most complex sewage projects in the world. The Umm Al-Haymann wastewater treatment plant, located south of Kuwait City, is geared towards ecological sustainability. With a daily capacity of up to 500,000 cubic metres, it will serve a region of 1.7 million people. For more information on this project, click here.
